An Homage to a Great Actor - Dennis Hopper

Yesterday, I woke up to the news that Dennis Hopper had passed away at the age of 74 from prostate cancer. I was very saddened at this news, because I had always found him to be a very unique actor and enjoyed many of his performances, from his role as Billy in 'Easy Rider', the evil yet zany Deacon, leader of the Smokers in 'Waterworld', and the maimed, homicidal ex-cop, Howard Payne, in 'Speed'. However, my favorite of all his roles was as King Koopa in the critic panned 'Super Mario Brothers'; I will always see the embattled Koopa chasing Mario and Luigi through the city, trying to kill them and yelling, 'Plumbers!' Even after seeing the movie countless times, it still makes me laugh. Dennis was expert at giving his own interpretation to a character and making you love him regardless of whether he was good or bad.

For all of his life, Dennis was a maverick, a renegade, doing things his way. Terms like 'star', and 'icon' do not do him justice. He was a true original. There is one less light shining in the firmament of Hollywood tonight, and the world is just a bit less colorful for his loss.

In homage to him I have made the quick page memorial you see below. If anyone else was a fan of this talented man and wishes to have it to honor him, please email me at penneyn@gmail.com, and I will send you the zip file. It would be nice to see his memory honored on a thousand pages.

Someone Did a BIG No-No!

You know, folks, as Terms of Use go, mine are not really restrictive; I allow scrappers to use my kits in most any way they'd like for personal use and I don't ask a lot in return. The one thing I DO ask is that people who use them refer others to my blog to be able to download my scraps for themselves there. I don't want them downloaded to any other file sharing site. I don't think that's a lot to ask, and yet, someone (I haven't been able to find out just who yet) has uploaded one of my kits to this site: http://www.filestube.com/38f411915c20a46003ea,g/Love-is-in-the-Air-by-Blue-Nile-Scrap-Designs.html

I would appreciate if anyone who knows who this file sharing account belongs to would please let them know that I would like them to remove this and simply provide a link to my blog instead. I'm not going to call out the copyright police on this, but it shows a distinct lack of respect for other people's property. I don't want to have to remove the download link to the kits, but if this happens again, I may wind up having to ask people to email me for the kits, and that is just such a hassle for everyone involved.

Okay, since I have become horribly addicted to Facebook games and spend too much of my time playing them. I have decided to do quick pages instead of full kits for a while. I just got a Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet, and I need to learn to use it so I can produce better looking graphics for my kits.

I hope you will all still come around to see if you can find anything that meets your fancy with them. I'm still going to do kits, but it will be a while before I go back to them, So, come back by in a few days and send all your scrapbooking buddies by as well!

Mardi Gras!

Greetings, fellow scrap addicts and happy Mardi Gras! For
those of you who interested, I have a mini kit called 'Carnivale!' It has three
papers and 8 elements... something perfect to make a quick page out of! Though I
have never been to Mardi Gras, I used to visit N'awlins frequently, and I loved
the French Quarter. The perfect way to start your day was cafe au lait and
croissants at the Cafe du Monde in Jackson Square, watching the river boats
paddle by. If you've never a the chance to visit New Orleans, it is a beautiful
city and well worthwhile a visit. Be sure to visit the French Quarter, which is
where the city began. Places you shouldn't miss visiting are the Cafe du Monde
and Jackson Square, of course, Bourbon Street, where you will find all kinds of
wonderful bars... if you like a drink or two, be sure to take the cocktail tour!
other must-see attractions are the Garden District (especially if you are and
Ann Rice fan) and the Audubon zoo. And , of course, everyone needs to see Mardi
Gras at least once. Someday, I'm going to get to go myself!

Anyway, the preview for the kit is below, and you can
download it here.

My First Christmas Scrap Kit

I finally finished the Christmas scrap kit! Yay! It was a long process because I wanted to make most of it myself. Have you ever tried to find a tutorial for a Christmas tree garland? They are few and far in between, believe me. I spent a couple of days looking through thousands of entries on a Google search, many of them with NO relation to what I was looking for (Why can’t someone create a search engine that will allow you to search for all the words in a phrase and not just any of the words in any phrase? Ask Jeeves used to do that, but when they became Ask.com, they dropped that format and became just another search engine.)

Finally someone in one of the groups I am a member of finally recommended their scrap blog to me. That was Spencer of Humbug Graphics Galore, and my sincerest thanks goes out to her for that. It not only helped me with the tutorial for the garland, but I discovered that the blog is loaded with other wonderful tutorials for many other scrap elements and functions. So, now, Humbug Graphics Galore is now one of my favorite tutorial sites, along with Scrap Stuff with PSP by Shawna. For those who would like to check them out, Humbug Graphics Galore is here, and Scrap Stuff with PSP by Shawna is here. I think if you visit either of these places if you’re a scrapper, you’ll find lots of goodies you’ll like!

The candy canes and candle centerpieces in this kit are from Designs by Sandi and are used with her permission. If you use this kit, please provide a credit to her as well.

Okay, on with business! The preview for my Christmas kit is below, and you can download it here. I hope everyone will enjoy it, and I wish you all a very happy holiday season, no matter how you observe it!

Thanksgiving Scrap

I’ve finally finished my Thanksgiving scrap, and I’m hoping that my visitors will like it. My two favorite parts of it are the button corn and the turkey. The idea for the button corn came from a design for a paper scrapping site called All Kids Network I thought it was just too cute, and had to try to recreate it for a digital kit. I got the idea for the turkey from an Oriental Trading Company catalog.

The pinwheel was a template that came from a scrapping blog which I was silly enough not to bookmark. If any of my visitors know which blog it is from, if you could could drop me an email and give me the URL, I would be most appreciative. I want to give credit to anyone whose work I use.

Okay. ‘nuff said. The preview of the Thanksgiving scrap is below, and if you like it, you are welcome to snag it here.
